CEO of SJCERA Johanna Shick Set to Retire in March

The San Joaquin County Employees’ Retirement Association (SJCERA) has announced that Chief Executive Officer Johanna Shick intends to retire in March 2024. This decision comes after Johanna Shick's remarkable seven-year tenure at SJCERA, during which she provided dedicated service and exceptional leadership, and after more than 33 years of serving in the public sector.

Shick will continue to serve as CEO until her retirement and will assist the Board in its nationwide search for her successor. Shick joined SJCERA as CEO in January 2017.

Shick added, ""It has been my honor to help ensure the security of retirement benefits for SJCERA’s 16,000 active, deferred, and retired members. I would like to thank the Board of Retirement for their steadfast support throughout my tenure, and SJCERA’s team of professional staff for their dedicated service to members. None of SJCERA’s success would be possible without them,”

SJCERA improved funding, cut investment expenses, modernized and streamlined operations, consistently obtained customer satisfaction ratings of 95% or higher, and became a more resilient organization under Shick's leadership.

"In March, we will bid farewell to a visionary leader who has made an indelible impact on SJCERA," said Michael Restuccia, Board of Retirement Chair. “Johanna's unwavering commitment to excellence, strategic foresight, and dedication to our employees and members have been instrumental in SJCERA’s success. She leaves behind a remarkable legacy, and we are immensely grateful for her invaluable contributions."

In preparation for this transition, SJCERA will be conducting a nationwide recruitment, with the goal of onboarding the new CEO prior to Shick’s departure. An executive search firm will be selected in the coming months.

“On behalf of the Board and the entire organization, I’d like to express our deepest gratitude to Johanna for her exceptional leadership and extend our warmest congratulations on her upcoming retirement. While it will be hard to see her go, she has built a strong team who remain focused on SJCERA’s mission to administer the fund and provide members their promised benefits. As a result, I anticipate a seamless transition in leadership,” said Restuccia.
